UPDATE:

The Calls for Speakers and Workshops are now closed.

We hope you’ll join us at WCEU 2020 as an attendee, and apply to speak or organize a workshop next year!

Host a workshop at #WCEU 2020: apply now!

Workshops were loved in Berlin at WCEU 2019! 77% of attendees who completed the feedback survey wanted to see them again in 2020 and we plan to deliver!

The Call for Workshops is now open and we’d like you to apply!

Do you have a workshop idea that you want to share at WCEU 2020? We are excited to receive your application and help you, as a workshop host, to make the experience educational and fun for both you and for the participants choosing to attend your workshop.

What are WCEU workshops?

Learning-by-doing is one of the most effective ways to learn. In addition to our regular talks, we’d like to invite you to provide hands-on guidance to our attendees. We encourage you to apply and share your knowledge in a workshop format.

We’ll have two different standard formats for workshops at WCEU 2020. You can choose to lead a 90-minute workshop or a 180-minute deep-dive session. However, if you think your workshop would work better at a different length, we can explore other options with you too.

It would also be interesting for you to tell us what number of people you think your workshop would work best with. As a workshop host, you will have the option of being helped by a group of TAs (teacher assistants) if that is of interest to you. We’ll be happy to provide the necessary tools or guidance to ensure both you and your workshop participants have the best possible experience at WCEU.

What kind of workshop could I host at WCEU?

We are looking to hold a lineup of workshops as diverse as our attendees’ interests are, therefore across a variety of topics and all levels of expertise. Here are some topics that will interest the audience at WCEU 2020:

  • Accessibility
  • Business development
  • Content
  • Design and UX
  • Development
  • Security
  • Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
  • Starting with WordPress

Of course, there are plenty of topics not included in the above list, so feel free to inspire us with your ideas and knowledge. What are you passionate about? What can you share with others? Don’t hesitate to apply so that you can share your expertise and knowledge with other WordPressers at WCEU!

Do I need any workshop hosting experience if I want to apply?

While not essential, it is recommended that you have some experience hosting workshops, or have at least spoken about your chosen topic in public before.

We will take your previous experience into account when reviewing workshop applications. If you have any previously prepared workshop materials, recordings, or testimonials, please share them with us as part of your application; they make the decision-making process a more informed one.

Similar to the speakers, you will be given access to the resources and valuable guidance from the WCEU organising team to help you prepare for your workshop, such as knowledge and tips about the format, how to motivate people to participate, how to tailor your content for the target audience, etc.

What is the application deadline and process?

The Call for Workshops will be open until 6 January 2020.

Application timeline:

  • 30 October 2019: Call for Workshops opens
  • 6 January 2020: Call for Workshops closes
  • Until late February: We’ll be selecting speakers and workshop hosts
  • Late February: Selected speakers and workshop hosts will be informed
  • Mid-March: Speaker and workshop hosts announcements will start
